WOTE Aromatherapy Course Description

The class begins in earnest on Saturday morning with a “tribe building” exercise that includes intention setting, a discussion of hydrosols, review of the materials to be covered in the information packet and a libation of an essential oil and its corresponding hydrolat. After the libation, I lead the class on a guided meditation that solidifies our intention with Spirit.

After our meditation, we begin to cover the vast amounts of material provided in the packets.. The curriculum includes how essences are made, an introduction to some of the farmers in our family, comparative qualities of various brands of essential oils, as well as variables in availability and cost due to climatic and political fluctuations. Other activities that break up the academia may include the Chakra Dance, anointed with oils. a Medicine Wheel Ceremony and/or the “Standing Tree” meditation that allows students to experience what it feels like to be a plant or a tree. After a full day, students are then sent home with a short reading assignment from the reference guide.

Sunday morning is by far my students’ favorite part of the course: a shamanic journey aided by the accompaniment of indigenous chants and sacred music that has been passed down for thousands of years via oral tradition. I respectfully lead this meditation by creating a Sacred Space, preparing the Altar (where students place their sacred objects for blessing) and inviting our Guides to witness. This is a profound experience for my students and for me each and every time. After a short break, the class resumes with the vast amounts of material we somehow manage to cover before the end of the day.

The class ends with a hands-on practical experience, where students become more personally acquainted with the essences by working with a partner and applying the oils that “call out” to them intuitively. Invariably, the students are drawn to such appropriate choices for their partner that they are instilled with respect for the plants’ power and confidence in their ability to connect with the wisdom of the plants and trees.

In order to receive their certification, students are required to submit a five page paper within three months of the class that explores one of the essences that has personally “called out” to them. As they learn about that essence and experience their individual relationship to it, they develop a kinship and make profound personal discoveries. Benefits of certification include wholesale pricing on all of the essences, the ability to continue to audit any level I class throughout the country for free (forever) and the unconditional support of their instructor whenever they require assistance or advice about the use of the essences.

This is a truly life-changing course that forever alters one’s perception of the Earth and the Self in an incredibly positive and empowering way.
